Hi, I'm Chris. A nature-lover, conservationist, photographer, writer, historian, trail-runner, drummer, and sometimes a few other things.
It took 8 years of working in marketing, communications, and sales roles before finally accepting that I was on the wrong path and needed to make a change. No longer could I suppress or justify the hollow satisfaction of successfully encouraging people to submit to the enticing calls of capitalism and grow their collection of superfluous 'things' they were tricked into thinking were needed for a happy life.
My dream as a child was to become a Zookeeper, and although experiences of distressing city zoos since then have long put this idea to bed, my passion and fascination of the living world has continued to grow.
Quitting an advancing marketing career was a big decision, but in the end, a simple one. The thought of working in that industry in 30 years time, was far more terrifying than going back to University and starting at the bottom rungs of a new ladder. Completing a master's degree in Environment and Resource Management in Amsterdam was my gateway to a new pathway, in which I could find more fulfilment, purpose, and satisfaction.
Which brings me up to now. Navigating the complex, frustrating, and all-consuming world of environmental protection, conservation, and sustainability. I have created this space as a creative outlet for my thoughts, observations and opinions on all things relating to nature, the climate crisis, and sustainability. It is a platform for me to showcase some of my photography and occasional videography.
Although I aim to ensure my posts are concise, easy to understand, and interesting, my writing background means this might not always be the case. An undergraduate history degree encouraged me to craft long, descriptive sentences with a lexicon Stephen Fry would be proud of, whilst my Environment and Resource Management master's stipulated a more precise approach.
Any feedback, comments, or suggestions, are most welcome.
Chris
